Artist Statement

My paintings are created through direct observation as well as an inventive studio process. My aims are to capture life and light in my work, the process is one of constant painting, scrapping out and repainting in an attempt to give the work what it suggests or needs. I strive to achieve a freshness in it’s creation.

I draw inspiration from my surroundings, in particular the beaches of York, Maine. Watching people walk their dogs, play bocce ball or seeing children play are scenes that have been captured through either traditional
“plein aire” painting techniques or have become incorporated into an inventive studio composition.

Another source of inspiration has come from various works in art history these include, Greek sculpture and pottery imagery, early Italian Renaissance painting, French Impressionism, along with more modern painters such as Giorgio Morandi, Picasso and Philip Guston. I welcome you to my website and hope you enjoy my portfolio.
